Unhappy VW Golf 1.4 16v, limp home 5000 revs: only.

VW Golf 1.4 16v, limp home 5000 revs: only, 54 plate.

This car goe's into limp home mode and sets the revs: to 5000 revs: only, EPC light comes on and codes set in the ABS also, as check engine ECU.

Codes in engine set as 16606 or P0222 = throttle pos sensor -B- circ:.

This is coding for the throttle body, but it should be noted that we get more trouble with the wiring in the loom, however check out the elec: throttle body.

And the pedal sensor, to to test the pedal sensor you will need to remove it.

Removing the pedal sensor.

Testing the pedal sensor.
There are 6 wires to test and to get at the plug you will need to remove the pedal it's self.

Here it is removed from the car.

There should be two ground cables and two supplys of 5v and two tracks.

Track 1 should be 0.8v to 3.9v throttle full open with the key on, running and blip, it must rise and look clean on a scope test.

Track 2 should be 0.38v to 1.9 to 2v throttle full open with the key on, running and blip, it must rise and look clean on a scope test.

If all is found to be ok check the throttle body wiring up to the ECU, we found this fault to be in the loom as it runs down from the EGR valve and down into an engine holding clip, the grey wire had brocken of in the loom at the bend.

If the fault is int: not all the time and will reset to no fault on a scan tool, try a loom wiggle test to see if the check engine light comes on, in this case it did and we could open the loom and find the break in the wire.

You will however need to use a scan tool to reset the codes to get the car to rev: again.

Here we are using the Autodia hand set to clear and reset.
