Default F150 starting trouble

hi timbo hope you can help. i have a 1996 ford F150 4X4 with a 5.0 liter gas engine. if i let the truck sit for a week or so it won't start it cranks fine but won't fire up. if i try several times a day after a few days it will start. had a friend look at it and he said there was little pressure at the fuel rail, i tried both tanks with same results. today i started it and let it idle for a few minuets and it stopped by it self and wouldn't start again. any ideas as to what's wrong?

Trouble is a lot of US kit is not like here is it the 5 liter Ford Mustang engine?.

So need to know one or to things, are you saying it's petrol or petrol and gas (DUEL FUEL) OR (JUST PETROL), or is it diesel, is it injected, petrol, or and injected gas, or carb petrol, with vaper gas to a carb:, can you give me some info, as the the type fuel or ign: system, has got plug leads and a coil king lead or DIS or coil per plug or other?

When you say pressure is low in the rail, are you saying petrol pressure low, on an injected engine?

Sorry to ask, we we need to know what we are dealing with, USA take gas as being petrol we don't.

Here, if using duel fuel, petrol and gas, the engine starts on petrol and hot changes over to gas

If we can work what it's like, I can help, some under bonnet photos may help, in the mean time I will look at what systems were fitted to that truck

it is a 302 cubic inch V8 fuel injected gasoline (petrol?) engine. yes petrol pressure is low barely squirts out of the shrader valve when pressed. will try to get some pics under the hood (bonnet). really wish it was a carborator job too many things to go wrong with these newer ones.

That told me what I need to know, the injected engine is easy to deal with.
Lets start with the fuel pressure and make sure that's right first, you have a shrader valve so that is good.

First do you have a gauge set and con: to fit the shrader valve, or can you get one from a friend?

I need you to tell me what control pressure you have with engine cranking, also on the fuel rail is there a fuel in and a return to the tank?

Some cars here don't have return, need to know this so I can give you an idea of what type of fuel pressure you should have, rails with return, give around 2.5 bar, about 37 lbs, no return rails 4 to 5 bar, I would be near to sure you have a return system.

If you can't get a gauge set, it's not to hard to rig something.

What type of shrader valve do you have? small or big, small ones are like tyre valves, big one's like on air con:

Let me know and we can try and get to know if rail pressure is ok

Remember the fuel rail is not charged with fuel all time key is on, only for around 10 seconds max then switched off, that is why it is best to run fuel tests cranking or running to be sure the pump relay is on.
