Thank you kindly for sharing this with us, it's an absolutely fantastic post, the show is very skilfully planned, therefore making it brilliant to watch, it had me on the edge of my seat at times. I know those type of diggers quiet well, I spent several years at a well known local factory building 360's myself a while back, and although I studied and I've spent most of my life working in ceramics with pottery the industry work it is very up and down and needs must. My dad spent all his working life designing 360 excavators I am sure he too would be very interested in watching the youtube link, I will try to remember to show him it once all this social distancing is over.

Sure good video that one.

Think they may do it a lot of times first or at each new set up using pins, you can see at the sides where the plate slides in some one in the tower can add a pin throw the holes.

At the front there are hooks that hold to the tower, if you look close you can see them hold as the weight pulls back on them to hold it and let it climb up.

What I do think is there is no safe fixing on the run in the video, but not sure about the very top, where something may lock in

What I would like to see is it come back down the tower.

Maybe your Dad will know more

Commentary:
This series of images apparently show a track excavator climbing a purpose-built tower using only "hydraulics, guts and a good operator". The images have generated considerable online debate with some commentators maintaining that the rather amazing feat would indeed be possible due to the specialised climbing tower used while others are convinced that the images have been "photoshopped" and do not depict a real event.

It appears that the tower allows the operator to first wedge the excavator's boom plate into a specially constructed step, hoist the machine up with the secured boom, and then wedge the machine's tracks into a step. Once the tracks are securely wedged, the operator can then release the boom, and repeat the whole procedure until the top of the tower is finally reached. Two other photographs available online (Image 1) ( Image 2) appear to show a very similar stunt at night and, possibly, in a different location. This suggests that the stunt really happened and is not the result of clever image manipulation.

So far, I have been unable to conclusively nail down the exact origin or status of the images. However, several commentators recall seeing a similar stunt aired on the German TV show Wetten dass..? back in 1997. What do you think? Real or fake? Do you know where or when the photographs were taken?
