While we are still munching our way through one side of the turkey, I’ll ask you this: Do you remember these?
A year or so ago I was taking a stroll through my local Tesco and fancied something to eat, what I fancied most was something I hadn’t had for decades. An individual square fruit pie. Couldn’t find one anywhere. At home Google came to the rescue. They were made by Lyons, launched in the mid 1930s cost 6d (2.5p) and remained in production until 1968 (then 1/6 (7.5p)). Incidentally they were made square to fit into lunch boxes. As Lyons are long gone, that explains the lack of stock in Tesco. But that got me thinking of other items that have disappeared from the supermarket (read Tesco) shelves. Camp coffee, do you remember BEV (liquid) or VENDONA (Instant coffee powder with chicory)? Vim and AJAX? Smiths Crisps and Golden Wonder amalgamated, but do you remember CHIPMUNK crisps? On to drinks: Baileys, remember CAROLANS (like Baileys but contains honey)? Guinness and Murphys, remember MACKESON? And finally BABYCHAM? Are there any others you remember? Regards SJL Last edited by Esjayell; 27-12-2020 at 04:34 PM. |
