Thumbs down Skoda codes P1612-P1196, Wiring faults.

Hi Guys and Girls, if you have an Skoda Fabia 1.4 16v code BBZ, and have codes P1612 engine control module incorrectily coded, and P1196 02 sensor heater comming up this one is sure for you.

We have found this to be due to faulty wiring, first you will need to test the 02 heater for resis: being ok, on the two big cables at the 5 wire 02 sensor, and also check for b+ and an switching ground running.

If found to be ok, D/M the batt and the box, also the ABS unit, pull it back with the pipes still on, the loom drops down at the rear of the ABS unit, to the bottom leg and runs along the leg, and under batt box.
Start to open the loom from top to well under the batt box, you may find water in the loom, this canbe from the screen wash pipes leaking, there maybe one or two of them, front and rear screen.

If they are found to be leaking do a repair and dry out the loom, after this, start bleep and resis: testing all of the loom cables from above ABS unit to well under the batt: box, you may well find that some of the cables are open, or high resis:, check the (CAN data bus cables), the small ones, they may well be fully open.

Yes i know there are 40+ cables there, but you must test all of them, the ones that are open or high resis: must be remade with a solder link up loom.

We find it best to cable tie the wires and not tape them, oh do keep the wash pipes well away from the loom, skoda put them in the loom just to help the fault along a bit i think!! .

It should also be noted that if car was rich, and any ripple on the ECM supply lines will increase the injection duration, ECM pins 3 and 4, (big pins)are the perm: live (30), and ign: key (15) lines.

After the loom repair, clear the codes, gas and cat test, and run road test, sometimes there can also be ECM damage, due to the faulty wiring, this canbe due to the way the ECM shuts down.

Here you can see that we have removed the batt: and the batt: box, also the ABS unit, see we have just pulled it back with the pipes still on.

Here you can see that i am holdiing up the wiring loom, the (CAN wires) are open and some more high resis:.
