Default BMW 118D 58 Plate, hum from turbo, codes 0530.

BMW 118D 58 Plate, hum from turbo.

Well this car has a hum from the turbo and no power, this is common and may will be a seized turbo.

Lets take a look and find a way to check the fault, with out the need of high price testing kit.

feel the boost pipe for air blow, it should feel hard in the hand as you take up the revs:, only do this if the turbo is sounding ok and there is no oil smoke.

In this case there is for sure on boost, with a scan tool read the codes, here we have code 4530, charge air pressure low, this could be due to turbo pipe damage, but with the hum I am thinking seized turbo.

One way to be sure is to remove the exhaust and cat, it's not a big job on this car, after the cat is removed you can see the exhaust side of the turbo, check and see if the fan spins and it will not touch the sides and it looks centre, here you can see a turbo in real trouble.
